CASE STUDY

Sofa Club

Most businesses that we speak to have at least one role they’re struggling to fill.

Background

Sofa Club is a UK based direct to consumer sofa retailer. With 60 staff, they are in seven of the biggest shopping centres in the country, as well as having a big presence online.

Requirements

With huge growth plans, the key objective of the business is to break into the top three or four brands in the country. In order to be able to do that, the company has recognised that it needs to be quite aggressive with its scaling. However, they were struggling to find staff to help them.

Resource Worldwide was recommended to Louis Rose, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Sofa Club, by a friend. Although a little skeptical at first, his friend shared that they had had a good experience and so he reached out to Resource Worldwide to explore more.

The Solution

Sofa Club’s biggest challenge has always been finding staff and finding staff with the correct skill set, which makes scaling at speed very difficult. After having a meeting with Sophie from Resource Worldwide, Louis felt that he’d found the solution and he was very happy to move ahead.

He said: “Working with Resource Worldwide has been great. The sign up, the application process, and the initial onboarding process is really easy. There is also handholding throughout, so it's really easy and really simple.”

Challenges

The only challenge that Sofa Club faced was adjusting to having a remote worker instead of someone physically there in the office.

Louis explained: “It does take a little while to adapt. But as long as you're willing to do that and put time and effort into managing remote workers, then there is no issue. We've integrated a graphic designer, for example, into the marketing team, and now it's just like having another member of the team. There's no difference. They work UK hours, so there's absolutely no obstacles there. They fit into the team really well.”

The Future

Prior to working with Resource Worldwide, Sofa Club had worked with remote workers in the UK, but this was their first experience hiring from overseas. Now that they’ve done it, they are very pleased they did.

“The whole thing was so unknown to us before, and it’s probably like that for other people. But the onboarding process is really simple and you get your hand held all the way through. So to anyone who is not sure if this is right for them, I would just say to go for it.”
