Background

Matt Malcolm runs an IT consulting advisory practice, who had hired permanent employees in the past but was now looking for an alternative solution.

Requirements

Matt explained what he was looking for. He said, “Having hired permanent employees in the past and understanding the dependencies, we didn't want to go and take that risk. What we actually needed was part time skilled people to do certain operational tasks.

“So we leaned into looking at options for virtual assistant resources to help support those gaps.”

The Solution

Matt approached Resource Worldwide and he was very happy with the service and the solution he received.

He said, “From the very start, from when we did the sourcing through to ongoing communication and the overall experience, end to end it was very well organised and professional. I can see that from the initial onboarding and interaction, through to the frequent check ins, be that weekly, bi weekly and so on.

“There is a general high degree of professionalism and good calibre of people.”

Challenges

Matt has noticed that since working with his remote professionals, the biggest impact has been the alleviation of time, which is really hard to replace.

He explained, “A lot of the activities we would have been doing ourselves, but we can now hand over to somebody else. We’ve seen a massive increase in time. What we have done now, because we've been using the services for so long, is we've essentially augmented what would have been the more basic and traditional activities, and instead our remote professionals are doing more of the operational activities because they've been around for so long and they understand the business.

“It made sense to naturally move their activities away from doing the basic stuff through to the more hands on stuff. And as part of that as well, because we've had a good experience with the individuals we've worked with, is management. Now our VA resources from Resource Worldwide support and manage other VAs and other team members as well. That's been quite instrumental in helping us span the capacity of our own time.”

The Future

Reflecting on the journey he’s been through, Matt believes this solution should be utilised more by other businesses. He said, “You've just got to give it a go. Because we've gone through the experience of getting our own VA, we know sometimes it can be good, but sometimes it cannot be good. The degree of assurance of going through a mature agency helped us to get over that initial hurdle.

“Even now, we still hire our own VAs from time to time, but the difference in the general calibre and less systemisation, or whatever you might want to call it, is apparent.”
